The School Development Fund

The School Development Fund (SDF) was established with an objective to promote excellence in teaching, research and service. It provides the necessary financial and administrative support to continuously develop the skills and capacities required for faculty, staff and students to excel in teaching, academic services, student activities, research and executive education. The SDF is divided into five sub-funds:

  1. The Faculty Teaching Development Fund (FTDF) was established in 2010 - 2011 to ensure that the faculty members of the School of Business are continuously exposed to recent developments in their disciplines, and that their theoretical knowledge and practical skills are regularly developed. The FTDF activities encompass broad areas to help faculty acquire up-to-date teaching techniques and skills necessary to improve students’ learning and develop higher education management programs in respect of international quality and accreditation standards; design curricula; adapt teaching styles and delivery modes to match classroom dynamics in an international and culturally diverse environment.
  2. The Faculty Research Development Fund (FRDF) was established in 2010 - 2011 to enhance research opportunities at the School of Business. It facilitates, enhances, funds and rewards faculty for outstanding research contributions via the initiatives hereinafter:
    • The FRDF award which is a financial award dispensed from the Faculty Research Development Fund. FRDF award is presented to faculty members for exceptional contribution to the intellectual life and the quality of research output of the School of Business. Examples of such contributions include, but are not limited to, publishing in top-tier and highly reputable academic journals. Pending availability of funds, the FRDF award will be presented annually with reference to research output published or accepted for publication within the calendar year. Recipients of the award are announced on the School of Business website and they are appropriately recognized in an appropriate event of the School of Business.
    • The Faculty Research Support Fund (FRSF) established in 2011 - 2012 to provide assistance and support to faculty in conducting promising research projects. The fund is a subset of the Faculty Research Development Fund (FRDF) with the purpose of assisting full-time faculty members finance small-scale research-related activities. FRSF should be regarded a standalone fund, with the purpose of adding to the resources available to the faculty to develop and finalize the research. The FRSF is not meant to replace the University grants, but to complement it. The FRSF subsidizes research-related activities that may not be covered by University grants. Examples are cases when the research activity emerges in between rounds of grant application, or when the research activity does not fit any specific type of University grant. Applications for FRSF are considered on rolling basis throughout the academic year.
  3. The Staff and Manager Development Fund (SMDF) was established in 2010 - 2011 to ensure that the staff members and management personnel of the School of Business are regularly in touch with the emerging trends in academic non-degree programs, student services, marketing, institutional development and corporate relations issues. The SDF activities encompass broad areas to help staff and management personnel acquire up-to-date management and administrative skills necessary to improve students’ learning and develop higher education management programs, practices and processes in respect of international quality and accreditation standards. The fund is for the enhancement of technical and personal skills of its management and staff by investing in lifelong learning to regularly enhance their performance, this includes conferences, trainings and professional development programs in relevant areas of expertise and relevant professional development programs.
  4. The Students Educational Development Fund (SEDF) was established in 2011 - 2012 to enhance students’ personal, academic and professional development opportunities. SEDF aims at promoting social responsibility, leadership and entrepreneurship among the student body, by supporting their participation at academic conferences and leading international competitions, as well as sponsoring innovative projects. SEDF will also give the opportunity to students to learn from business practitioners and gain hands-on practical experience to complement classroom learning. Additionally, SEDF intends to help students strengthen their international exposure and develop the skills and knowledge required to start a successful career in today’s global business environment.

Application and selection procedure: Proposals should be submitted by email to busfunds@aucegypt.edu. The SDF and the SEDF will be reviewed by the associate dean for undergraduate studies and administration. FTDF will be reviewed by the associate dean for undergraduate studies and administration and the director of institutional development. The FRSF will be reviewed by the associate dean for graduate studies and research.
