Since its inception in 2000, the center has been widely recognized for its specialized short courses that provide training to practitioners and researchers in the field of migration and refugees. CMRS short courses are attended by staff of organizations working with refugees and migrants, researchers as well as by MA and PhD students aiming to gain specific training for their research work.
The CCIP (Cairo Community Interpreter Project) was developed by CMRS in 2002, providing professional standard training in community interpretation for interpreters who work in international agencies such as the UNHCR and IOM, and in aid NGOs such as AMERA, Caritas, St. Andrews, etc. Over the eight years of its existence, CCIP has successfully established and maintained an international standard professional training program that reaches almost all interpreters in the refugee aid agencies in Egypt, and has become a role model for similar agencies in other countries. CCIP has been approached by agencies in countries including Turkey, Hong Kong, Uganda, Ethiopia and Kenya to provide interpretation training and technical assistance there.
