Euro-Med Studies

In December 2016, MESC hosted a joint workshop with the European University Institute on "Order and Disorder in the Middle East and North Africa: New Perspectives on Regional Security and Political Economy". In 2018, the Middle East Studies Center was awarded a grant from the European Union to create a new unique platform for young Egyptian scholars to engage with European policymakers and academic experts. We brought in a number of expert scholars from Europe to discuss key themes such as EU foreign policy and food security. A select few also attended a workshop on Mediterranean security and the papers from this event will be the basis of a new edited volume.

Alongside this, Dr. Mason has been active on the subject, writing about the Syrian conflict and refugee crisis in the European Foreign Affairs Review (Vol. 23, Issue 1, February 2018). He has also provided op-ed commentary for EuroMeSCo and articles in the publication Orient. In November 2018, he gave a lecture in the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University titled "Reformulating UK - European Relations After Brexit: Implications for the MENA Region."
