In December 2016, MESC hosted a joint workshop with the European University Institute on "Order and Disorder in the Middle East and North Africa: New Perspectives on Regional Security and Political Economy". In 2018, the Middle East Studies Center was awarded a grant from the European Union to create a new unique platform for young Egyptian scholars to engage with European policymakers and academic experts. We brought in a number of expert scholars from Europe to discuss key themes such as EU foreign policy and food security. A select few also attended a workshop on Mediterranean security and the papers from this event will be the basis of a new edited volume.
