Ma’an Alliance Holds Second Workshop in April
The Ma’an Alliance of Arab Universities held its second
workshop April 2014 in Cairo. The workshop was for Egyptian national
universities to draw the roadmap of the Ma’an network in Egypt.
In February 2014, a regional consultation was held in Amman,
Jordan targeting university presidents with the aim of developing the network
Meanwhile, the Gerhart Center is helping to produce case
studies on active community initiatives at seven national universities in
Egypt. The main objective is to document distinctive civic programs by faculty
and students. Sharing the case studies is a step toward building a community of
practice among those working on university-based civic engagement, who
sometimes feel isolated in their home universities. The case studies are
expected to be completed by January 2015.
The Ma’an Alliance of Arab Universities was launched in 2009
to support institutional citizenship in the region. The Ma’an Alliance is a
regional entity of the global Talloires Network, bringing together Arab
universities with the collective goal of encouraging civic engagement in higher
education and supporting the exchange of best practices. It is a regional
association of 13 institutions committed to strengthening the civic roles and
social responsibilities of Arab higher education.
