Ma’an Alliance Holds Second Workshop in April

The Ma’an Alliance of Arab Universities held its second workshop April 2014 in Cairo. The workshop was for Egyptian national universities to draw the roadmap of the Ma’an network in Egypt.

In February 2014, a regional consultation was held in Amman, Jordan targeting university presidents with the aim of developing the network regionally.

Meanwhile, the Gerhart Center is helping to produce case studies on active community initiatives at seven national universities in Egypt. The main objective is to document distinctive civic programs by faculty and students. Sharing the case studies is a step toward building a community of practice among those working on university-based civic engagement, who sometimes feel isolated in their home universities. The case studies are expected to be completed by January 2015.

The Ma’an Alliance of Arab Universities was launched in 2009 to support institutional citizenship in the region. The Ma’an Alliance is a regional entity of the global Talloires Network, bringing together Arab universities with the collective goal of encouraging civic engagement in higher education and supporting the exchange of best practices. It is a regional association of 13 institutions committed to strengthening the civic roles and social responsibilities of Arab higher education.
