The founder of Sawari Ventures, Flat6Labs, Nafham and Tahrir Alley Technology Park (TATP) becomes the latest recipient of the prestigious award.
Within its efforts to recognize entrepreneurial excellence, the AUC Venture Lab (V-Lab) awarded successful businessman and entrepreneur Ahmed El Alfi with its Venture Lab Award (VLA) for Entrepreneurship Impact for his continued contributions to enhancing entrepreneurship.
El Alfi received the award from AUC President Francis Ricciardone and Director of the AUC V-Lab, Abdul Latif Jameel Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship and Assistant Professor Ayman Ismail during the Shell Cycle 9 Demo Day for V-Lab-incubated startups.
The VLA for Entrepreneurship Impact is presented to individuals who have made considerable contributions to the development of the entire ecosystem. It is more than just about recognizing individual success stories; it honors those that advocate, educate and inspire up-and-coming business founders.
As one of Egypt’s most active entrepreneurs, El Alfi’s career shows a notable emphasis on such greater good. An early-stage and growth investor for the best part of 27 years, he founded private-investment-partnership Hybrid Capital Partners in 1990. He helped grow and advance several important businesses through his work there; including PC Mall, ATML, Banquet, Internet Brands and the Genetics Institute. El Alfi was also the CEO of EFG-Hermes Private Equity during 2006.
Since 2010, he has primarily focused his attention on entrepreneurship through founding various ecosystem-developing enterprises. Sawari Ventures has an impressive portfolio of investments in visionary startups, turning founders’ ideas into market-leading realities.
Regional startup accelerator Flat6Labs has the same societally enriching vision through its continued incubation of some of Egypt’s most promising young companies.
Nafham, on the other hand, is a top online educational platform that covers the Egyptian, Saudi Arabian and Syrian public-school curriculums through lessons given in a modern video structure. The portal currently provides more than 100 thousand free video lessons per day.
With TATP, El Alfi took over a sizable portion of AUC’s Downtown Campus, the Greek Campus, and turned it into a 25-thousand-square-meter office park where over 100 startups work and collaborate.
Along with these entrepreneurial commitments in Egypt, his current portfolio also includes online travel company Triporati, USA-based toxicology laboratory Pacific Toxicology Laboratories and big-data analysis company Zignal Labs.
