The Global Informatics Forum 2016 (GIF) was held under the auspices of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in Kuwait. The forum covered various scientific and practical lines related to the digital age and creative technologies. Dr. Hussein Amin, Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication, and Director of the Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism, at the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, participated among a group of experts and specialists who took part in the activities of the three-day forum from November 21 - 23, 2016, under the title of ‘Digital Transformation Toward Knowledge Economy.’ Further, the activities included a ‘Marketplace of Ideas’ exhibition, displaying future technologies, applications and digital creations of public and private establishments on both Arab and international levels, including researchers from the Arab world and from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Several Topics were addressed during the forum tackling subjects that included smart cities, the latest in the world of robots, using iClouds, creativity in using financial technologies, best practices of developing mobile phone applications, 3D printers and their uses, comparison between actual and virtual reality techniques, in addition to the latest on automation techniques.
Open session speakers included Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Minister of Justice Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Al-Sabah, Dr. Hussein Amin, School of Global Affairs and Public Policy , and Joi Ito, Director of MIT Media Labs.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Amin discussed Media Digitization and Knowledge Economy. The Forum took place at Arraya Ballroom in Courtyard Marriott Hotel, Kuwait City, Kuwait.
