Under the “Know Thy Country” initiative that was launched in Fall 2016 by the Yousef Jameel GAPP Public Leadership fellowship, a group of fellows headed to El Moez street on Thursday January 4, 2018.
The group visited various historical locations among the Mamlouki and some of which were the Fattimi Eras and took memorable shots of them all. Sites visited included: Al Moayed Mosque, Al Qalaoun Mosque, Al Seheimy House, Wekalet Al Ghoury, Hamam Al Sultan and Sabeel Muhammed Ali.
The group then had a brunch in one of the most popular and authentic spots in Khan El Khalili “Naguib Mahfouz Cafe”. “Egypt is a rich country and we need to get acquainted more with its wealth and beauty. Through ‘Know They Country’ initiative students get introduced to different landmarks across Egypt, expand their horizons, and enjoy the day, whilst networking with their colleagues and faculty”, said Laila El Baradei, Jameel Fellowship Faculty Advisor.
The initiative is multipurpose. It aims at enhancing the link between theory and practice, getting students to venture out of their classrooms and see face to face what is happening in different parts of their beloved country, fostering the bond between them, helping them expand their networks and combining both educational and recreational aspects
