Access Databases From Off Campus
Only full-time faculty members, students and staff members can access databases and other electronic resources from off-campus locations. Users will be prompted for their ID barcode number. For more information, please click here
Borrow a Laptop
Current AUC students and faculty can borrow laptops with their AUC ID card at the circulation desk on the plaza level of the Main Library. Laptops can only be used inside of the Main Library.
Borrowing Hours: Sunday - Thursday 9 am - 6 pm
Tuesdays 9 am - 4 pm
Borrow and Renew Books
Books and some other materials may be borrowed at three locations in the main library, using a valid AUC ID card:
- Circulation Desk (located on the Plaza Level)
- Self-checkout units (located on Plaza Level, as well as the Self-checkout units (located on Plaza Level, as well as the Frist and Second Floors of the main library building)
Self-checkout units will issue a receipt that should be kept as a reminder of the due date.
If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the circulation and reserve department.
Your are accountable for items borrowed on your ID, so never let another person use your ID card or borrow items for another person.
Books can be renewed on or before the due date provided there is no hold on the book. Use
one of the following locations or services to renew books:
You can search the library holdings through two interfaces: Library One Search finds books, ebooks, articles, news and other material. The catalog finds books and ebooks only is more efficient. Please see our guide for searching and using ebooks.

Find Books in the Main Library
Books in the AUC Library are shelved by Library of Congress call number in many different locations, see floor map.
Make a note of the location before attempting to find an item.For items with the location “Main Library,” call numbers beginning with:
A - HE First floor
HF- Z Second floor
Other locations that you may see in the online catalog include
- Periodicals (Garden Level)
- Main RSRVE (Reserve Desk, Plaza Level)
- SPCL (Rare Books and Special Collections Library,Third floor)
Find Reserve Items
Printed books are held on reserve behind the Circulation Desk on the Plaza Level. To check out a reserve item, please ask a member of the circulation staff at the desk. The course reserves desk is located on the Plaza Level of the Library.
Lost and Found
The lost and found office is located at Gate 4 (Pepsi Gate). If the item was lost in the library, you may also check at the Help Desk on the Plaza Floor of the Main Library.
Photocopy service is available on the Garden Level of the library.

Journal articles and book chapters that are not available from the library can be ordered via the Document Delivery service.
Pay Overdue Fines
Currently enrolled students should go to the circulation desk in the main library and sign the Library Charge Notification form. The fine will then be added to your tuition fees.
All other patrons must go to the circulation desk and collect the Pay Order Form and then pay the fine at the admin cashier's office (Sunday to Thursday, from 9 am to 3 pm). The receipt from this payment must be presented to the library circulation desk in order to clear your record.
Place a Hold
If a book is checked out staff at the circulation desk can place a "hold" on the checked out item. When the item becomes available, a notice will be sent to the patron via email and the book will be held for pickup for seven days at the circulation desk.
Print in the Main Library
To Print from the public computer terminals in the main library:
• Select File menu - Print (from the application you want to print from.)
• Depending on the color attributes of your document, select:
- Extended print (10+pages or pdf) printer
- Library public color printer
- Quick print (less than 10 pages.) printer
• Click the OK button.
• In the “print job details” screen, enter your AUC email username (if your AUC email is firstname.lastname@example.org enter username), and a job name to identify each of your print jobs. Click the “Print” button.
Your AUC email username will be used as your logon ID at the print station office or the self-print station. If you do not have an AUC email account, enter ‘libuser’ instead.
• Wait until you see the “message about your print job” pop-up. If you accept the charge click “Yes” and procced to the next step, otherwise click “No.” Read more about printing options, including mobile devices.
Read an e-book
The library holds e-books from several vendors, with each platform working slightly differently. For guidance on how to use a particular e-book, please refer to the ‘help’ function on the vendor platform, the library guide or contact a librarian.
Reserve a Graduate Student Study Carrel
The 30 graduate carrels are assigned for one semester for the following three periods: fall semester, spring semester and the summer session. More information, and an application form are available online.
Recommend Books for the Library to Purchase
Please send book request to the Collection Development department using the Seach Form.
Report Missing Books
To report a missing book in the main library, please fill out a Search form at the Circulation Desk on the plaza level. By reporting missing books, you help us maintain the collection.
Three scanners are available to all library patrons on the Plaza Level of the Main Library building.
Search in Arabic
In the online library catalog, your cursor must be in the search box in order to enter an Arabic script search.
To key Arabic script into the search box, press the "ALT" + RIGHT "SHIFT" keys, and then type your search. To switch back to English, press the "ALT" + LEFT "SHIFT" keys.
You can search for AUTHORS, TITLES,and KEYWORD in the AUC online catalog, using Arabic script. Note, however, that the catalog is not bilingual; searches in Arabic will ONLY display records for Arabic language items in the catalog that have Arabic script in AUTHOR, TITLE and KEYWORD fields.
To search for Arabic journal titles using Arabic script, please search in TITLE only, not the JOURNAL TITLE search.
If Arabic script does not display correctly, our browser probably does not have the proper view setting. Make sure the ENCODING (usually in “settings”) is set to "Unicode (UTF-8)".
Submit a thesis
All theses must be submitted online, and will be archived in the University’s repository, DAR. There are strict guidelines for submission. Please refer to the guide to depositing scholarship, or contact the Help Desk.
