Fundamentals of English Language Teaching

To become an instructor of English as a foreign language, it is essential to have knowledge of teaching methods and classroom management techniques, together with background knowledge in language acquisition and sound assessment practices. The Certificate of Achievement in the Fundamentals of English Language Teaching introduces pre-service and in-service English instructors to the best practices in the field of teaching English as a foreign language (ESL), by focusing on the previously mentioned four areas. Holders of this certificate may then pursue a career in the field, whether at schools, language centers or in schools of continuing education within ESL programs.

Course Assessment

Trainees are assessed throughout the term by assignments (lesson plans, observation tasks, practical teaching practice, and written reflections) and a written exit test. The final grade is, therefore, an accumulation of continuous and achievement assessments, for which the minimum accepted score is 70 percent. While absence does not influence the grade, it does influence the performance of the trainees.
