Testing for Admission, Re-Admission, Placement and Re-Placement

All new scheduled program applicants must sit for one or more tests to determine their language proficiency level or competency in a specific subject, before being accepted as School of Continuing Education (SCE) learners. In order to apply for any SCE certificate other than the English language program and teacher training certificates, the default cut-off score is the English course ENGGB1A. In the case that the default admission language proficiency cut-off scores are changed, department directors (DDs) will consult with the Evaluation, Testing and Assessment Department (ETAD) director to determine an alternate cut-off score.

A list of valid tests is sent to the Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Office by the ETAD testing and assessment manager at least three months before the beginning of the fiscal year. Also, it is the responsibility of the ETAD testing and assessment manager to inform the SEM office of any updates at least ten working days before the start of the admission cycle.

To apply for the English language courses, all prospective learners must sit for the Standardized English Proficiency Test (SEPT).

To apply for oral communication English language courses, all prospective learners must sit for the Oral SEPT (OSEPT).

To apply for studies other than English language courses, learners must sit for SEPT and they may be required to sit for further entrance tests as demonstrated in the next table.

In some cases, applicants are exempted from SEPT as follows:

However, learners who completed a Foundation certificate or AUC continuing education certificate are required to sit for the SEPT if they dropped out for a period of one year or more from the date of completing the certificate.
