Over the last 90 years, The American University in Cairo (AUC) has been committed to providing high-quality education nationally, regionally and internationally. Since 1919, AUC has witnessed several major developments, starting from being both a preparatory school and a University with the one school to becoming a well-established University with six major schools serving the community and preparing highly educated graduates recognized for their commitment and international work standards. In 2005, the School of Sciences and Engineering (SSE) embarked on its first six-year strategic plan. The primary goal of this highly ambitious plan is to position SSE on a trajectory of academic excellence and world-class distinction. Five simultaneous tracks were pursued for the enhancement of infrastructure, undergraduate offerings, graduate education, research and funding, and communication and collaboration with the industry, as well as with local, regional establishment of the first PhD program at AUC.
