Learning objectives include:

  • Develop knowledge of chemistry and manufacturing of cement; constitution of cement components and their phase relations, calcination reactions in rotary kiln, energy and material balance, hydration reactions and products
  • Understanding types, standards and quality control of cement and cement based materials (mostly concrete) and their utilization
  • Understanding of the characteristics of cement raw materials in relation to cement production and quality, methods of extracting, crushing and grinding the raw materials like clay and limestone
  • Develop power distribution network and process automation in cement plants, computer aided process and quality control systems, plant air and water networks, mechanical aspects for mills and kilns
  • Understanding sustainable developments in cement industry and general management systems for cement plant operation
  • Ability to work in various parts of a cement plant at technical or at administrative levels to perform the required tasks efficiently with considerations of energy-saving and environmental issues
  • Ability to develop a vision for the future developments in the plant, to detect the technical and administrative shortcomings and propose solutions for them
